Luminite Gels
Luminite Gel is an acrylic based gel invented in Canada in the early ‘90s. The gel formula is a patented, proprietary mix, that is held closely by Luminart Corp.
Luminite is non-toxic and biodegradable, making it safe for use indoors or out. Luminite is available in two
major series, Crystal and Opaque. The Crystal gels are semi-translucent, available in a variety of colors, and deliver a near glass-like appearance when applied. The Opaque series actually contains various
phosphors that light up when exposed to light.
Both series of gel are acrylic based, and delivered in a vacuum packed airless tube. The gel can be dispensed
through the use of a Luminart machine, or manually through the use of any standard caulking gun.
To cure or harden the gel, it has to be exposed to an ultraviolet light. Five minutes in a Luminart
Curing chamber is usually sufficient to completely harden the Luminite gel. All Luminite gel contains a UV activated hardener, the UV agent reacts when exposed to any UV light source. This means
that even exposing the gel to the sun for a few minutes will cure most pieces of Luminart.
